Bond Girl: Joanna Pettet

Joanna Pettet (born Joanna Jane Salmon) is a British actor. She plays Mata Bond in the 1967 spoof Casino Royale, based on the same novel. She is the first person to have played a daughter of James Bond, beating Lisa-Dorah Sonnet by over fifty years, and one of the first female 007 (with a speaking part), although this was outside the EON Productions franchise.

Biography

Pettet was born in Westminster, London, England.

Her parents, Harold Nigel Edgerton Salmon, a British Royal Air Force pilot killed in the Second World War, and Cecily J. Tremaine were married in Chelsea, London, in 1940. After the war, her mother remarried and settled in Montréal, where young Joanna was adopted by her stepfather and assumed his surname of “Pettet.”

When Pettet was 16, she moved to New York City.

On 8 August 1969, Pettet had lunch at Tate’s home, hours before the crimes were committed at that residence by members of the Manson Family. Petett was one of the last people to see Sharon Tate alive. This event is illustrated in the 2019 film Once Upon a Time…In Hollywood, in which Pettet is portrayed by Rumer Willis.
